Anti-HIV Diet
General Nutritional Strategy: A diet that is low in cholesterol and high in fiber. Most foods should not be consumed overly cooked or raw, moderately cooked and steamed is best. Saturated fats should be eliminated. Emphasize Grains and fresh Vegetables followed by Fruits, Legumes and Beans should not exceed 10% of diet.
Foods To Encourage
Omega 3/GLA Fatty Acids: Aids in the removal/lowering of cholesterol levels. Lowers blood pressure, reduces blood viscosity, helps to prevent ischemia. Supports circulatory and nerve renewal.
Animals Sources of Omega 3: “Fish Oil” found Salmon, Mackerel, Sardine, Herring, Anchovy, Butter Fish, Rainbow Trout, Tuna. A minimum of 7-10oz eaten per week is a base therapeutic dose. Caution should be used when eating these foods because they are commonly contaminated with heavy metals and other toxins. Prepared capsules and liquids are safest.
Plant Sources of Omega 3: Raw or Oils from Flax Seed (refrigerate), Chia, Hemp, Pumpkin, Soybean (Tofu brick products), Walnut, dark green Vegetables, Wheat Grass.
Mushrooms: Strong immune stimulators and detox. Maitake and Shiitake are best.
Seaweed: Kelp, strongly detoxs. Any sea vegetable will have some effect.
Sprouts & Cereals: Alfalfa is the best sprout. Caution with loose stool. Wheat & Barley as juice or dried powders. Barley is easier to digest.
Bee Products: Deeply nourishing and regenerating, liver preserving, and pain relieving. Royal Jelly (strongest)- 400mg per day, Bee Pollen (moderate)- 10-15g per day, Raw Honey (weakest)- several tsp per day.
Micro-Algae: Wild Blue-Green algae- from Klamath Lake is a very strong tonic with nervous system renewal properties, Spirulina is better for those who consume large amounts of animal protein, Chlorella is middle of the road and can be used by anyone.
Culinary Herbs and Teas:
Aloe- unrefined and bitter is best.
Garlic- 3 cloves daily for immune support.
St. Johns Wart- use cautiously with anti-depressants.
Licorice root- use cautiously with high blood pressure, or use deglycerized that will not elevate BP.
Oregano
Tumeric
Food to Avoid
Juices, Dairy, Red Meat, excessively sweet foods, highly refined foods.
